Facts about Annapolis
Annapolis is the capital of Maryland, and also serves as the county seat for Anne Arundel County. The city is also the only incorporated city within that county. Found on Chesapeake Bay, Annapolis is 25 miles south of Baltimore and 30 miles east of Washington DC. According to the 2020 census results, the city has more than 40,800 residents.
Founded in 1649 and incorporated in 1708, Annapolis was the site of a number of early events in the formation of the United States. The city was the site of the Second Continental Congress (known today as the Confederation Congress), and served as the nation's capital from 1783 to 1784.
United States Naval Academy in founded in Annapolis 1845m and is a four-year institution. Upon graduation, students provide five years of active duty service to the US Navy or the Us Marine Corps. Currently, the Academy has an average annual enrollment of 4,500.
